Breakfast CoL Meeting with Anne Kenealy on Tuesday 10 May at 7.30am - 8.15pm
Titled - "Engage Me" looking at how to engage students and have them taking part in student-directed learning. We were shown the 7 rungs of the ladder and how to be trying to operate as far up the ladder as possible, top of the leader being student-directed and the bottom of the ladder being teacher driven.
CoL Day Term 1 -
This was via zoom due to Covid, we had a keynote speaker from Canada, Joanne Quinn who spoke on new pedagogies for deep learning.
We had time to hook up with our Year 7 and 8 cohorts from the other area schools and it was good to reconnect.
In the afternoon we had our own school time to discuss where we are at with deep learning and had Jo Barr facilitate this.
Structured Literacy
Took part in the structured literacy webinars throughout the year, watched the videos on line and completed booklet along the way.
Teacher Only Days
11 May - Junior School planning -Matariki Unit and Local History GoldRush Curriculum
16 August - We had another focus on our Local Curriculum Unit. We had discussions around the 4 areas of Deep Learning and the 6C's. So good to have the time to focus on this and discuss in depth.
This week on Monday and Tuesday evening we held our mid-year parent teacher interviews. Parents booked in for a 15 minute interview and it was worthwhile to have 2-way and in some instances 3-way, as some students attended, discussions about their learning.
In the second part of this term we split into whanau groups, we had 5 groups and we each took an art activity related to Matariki and the finished products were displayed at the Community Matariki Celebration Night on Friday 2 July. It was a fantastic evening and was very well supported.
